YOUTH FLAG comes to WEST NASHVILLE(feb
2009)
If you have children from ages 5-17 who do not have the advantage of
playing tackle football, but want to participate in a style of football
that teaches them the basics of the game without the contact, then this
league is for you. This league is ideal for those parent or kids
(girls/boys) to have the comfort and the confidence participating and
really getting more out of the game itself than most kids at this age
would if they were playing full gear football. The problem with
children at this age, especially the 5-13 age is that one hit, one bad
experience can shield them from the game and possibly leave them
uninterested because they relate that experience or that injury to that
sport which can take it off their radar as a sport/activity to play.
Although I do not really discourage this age from playing tackle, I know
and realize that not all kids have the potential or the drive to play
tackle at this age. These are the facts and for those who do not
have that opportunity, they go play or get involved in some other
activity Soccer, basketball, karate, etc... I feel it is
beneficial to have these other avenues, I also feel that each kid should
have the opportunity to learn the game, learn team concepts and learn
how to play with a group as ONE. These are tools that the youth of
today should be armed with for future life. I am a huge advocate
of TEAM first and these days with the antics that players, even at the
high school level do today do not really reflect what I feel are team
concepts. Unfortunately today's athlete is more about Me! Me! Me!
which is very unfortunate. I am writing this piece to get the word
out and to try help grow the league. I coached in the WNSL last
year in their inaugural season. The experience was top notch and I
thought Scott at the WNSL runs a great program. The season will be
in fall of each year generally from September to end of October.
If you need more information or have a interest in your child
participating in the 2009 season contact Scott Tygard at the WNSL.
I have provided a direct link to their web site for you
WNSL League Site.
When the site comes up click on the Flag Football icon at the top of
page and this is where all related information is located. Be sure
that when you go to the main page, you look for information because when
registration opens, there will probably be news or registration
information located there.
Also, you can email me at
bacheb@bellsouth.net so
I can put you on mailer for when the registration opens I will contact
you via email to notify you. I will know earlier due to me being
one of the 9-10 division coaches.
League specifics: Last
year's registration included cost for regular jersey's and most of the
teams took the option of purchasing the real NFL jersey's for their team
Titans, Eagles, Packers, etc.... The cost I believe was $22 each
child to upgrade to the NFL jersey's.
